Numerical weather prediction (NWP) systems were once the domain of large on-premises supercomputers, but no more. In this session you will hear how Bureau of Meteorology scientists have built a semi-operational weather forecasting system with AWS high performance computing (HPC) services. Using the flexibility and scalability of the cloud they are able to cut down cost by only running compute infrastructure when needed. The solution is fully automated, leveraging services including AWS ParallelCluster along with Amazon S3, Step Functions, Lambda and API Gateway to orchestrate the entire forecasting process end-to-end.
